Dear Melissa,
Good morning. I would have answered sooner, but the summer months are quite busy and I wanted to make sure that I answered with a more in depth history. As you know, we do market to high school seniors and have done so since 1965. At the present time, some of our business is contractual and some is not, since in most instances we prefer it this way. When we did have contractual work with Gulliver Schools, it was under the understanding that if we did become the vendor of choice, that the Gulliver policy is, students could go elsewhere for senior pictures and could submit them to the yearbook for acceptance. It was up to us to market these students and fulfill the promises of the contract. We did this for the graduating classes of 2005 and 2006. In other words, the school was not in the photography business and we were to assume the responsibility of getting them to our studio and provide the agreed service. In 2007 and 2008 graduating seniors were photographed by our studio and pictures were submitted individually. In 2008 as requested by the school, all students' pictures were delivered on disc. Also in 2008, we were not the only studio that submitted photographs for the year book, besides the vendor. This should be noted, that there were more than two photographers who submitted work.
Fine Arts has a long time reputation of doing great work and it just so happens that a number of families whose students attend your school, like our work, our creative venue, individual appointments, have done business with us for many years and prefer to come here for their photography. This is the reason we have remained in business for 58 years. We handle our own business in a FREE market society, and as such, do not ask for help in marketing our business on our premises and need only the permission of the customer who wishes to use our services as they have over the years. Our marketing material does not say we are the contracted studio or studio of preference for Gulliver. It also says we charge for our services and they must purchase to receive anything from us.
This year we will not submit pictures from Fine Arts directly. Any submissions will be from the customer only, since they are the one’s purchasing.
Have a good summer.
Regards,
Lewis
